Welcome to TheSandPits.com. The Sand Pits hosts outdoor sand volleyball leagues from the end of April to mid-October, while the bar and grill, now managed and operated by Porky's, 574-PIGS(7447), hosts parties and is open to the public year-round.

The Sand Pits features a unique festive atmosphere to Colorado Springs. Almost 2,000 tons of sand was brought in to create a 1½-acre beach, currently consisting of five volleyball courts and a children's play area. Porky's has full liquor services and a full menu to satisfy any appetite. So if you're just looking for a place to relax and have a beer, wanting to play a friendly game of volleyball or trying to plan a party that they'll all enjoy, whether it's 10 or 1,000 people, this is the place for you.

Volleyball
(Leagues, Open Play and King/Queen of the Beach)

The Sand Pits hosts leagues on its five outdoor sand volleyball courts providing a great opportunity to relieve stress, build camaraderie with friends and coworkers and to meet new people. Leagues generally start around May 1st and continue up to October 15th. Three separate 8-week sessions are run consecutively. 2, 4 and 6 player teams are divided into Recreational, Intermediate and Power skill levels with the most popular being COED 6's Recreational. Specialized corporate, church or "related industry" (i.e.: a league with realtors, mortgage lenders and insurance agents) leagues can be created. Each league meets at its own same time and day every week (i.e.: Every Wednesday, always at 8:00). Costs are $70 for doubles, $140 for 4's and $210 for 6's. Open Play is only $5 per person ($3 for League Members) for the entire day. Non-League Members can purchase League Member status for $50/season or for $25 for corresponding 8-week league. Open Play is always provided assuming available courts. Courts can also be rented for $18/hour.

King/Queen of the Beach is every Tuesday at 6:15pm for Queen (Queen depends on court availability due to low past turnouts) and every Wednesday at 6:45pm for King, April 27th through October 10th. This is for the individual doubles player - all skill levels. You do not need a partner and can play any week you choose (i.e.: This is not a league, so you can start at any time and don't have to be there every week, just play when you feel like it). Cost is $2 plus open play fee or membership. Show up by 6:45 (6:15 for Queen) to sign up. Entrants after 6:45 (6:15,Q) will not be allowed to play. Play starts at 7:00pm (6:30,Q) sharp . You must be warm and ready to go by 7:00 (6:30,Q).

All players will be ranked. Newcomers start at the bottom and must work their way up. At 6:45 (6:15,Q) , all present players will be divided into divisions (men and women separate). The top 8 ranked players in division 1, next 8 in division 2 and so on. Divisions are generally 8, 9 or 10 players depending on total number present. The divisions are broken into 2 pools of 4 or more players. You will play a minimum of 3 games, one each with a different partner. Top 2 players in each pool of respective division break to the Final Four and play three more games. Points are accumulated throughout. Your ranking is determined on your last three showings. Your ranking is not hurt by a no-show. 100% of the $2 fees are given back at the end of the 8-week session based on accumulative points and rankings.

From the open-air bar (seasonal) to the sand on the floor, you can't help but to get caught up in the laid-back atmosphere. Maybe you just want to grab one of the many hammocks and lounge the afternoon away with a Pina Colada or let your kids build sand castles while you sun yourself. Maybe you want to get into a game of volleyball, or maybe you just want a quick burger and a beer or two to unwind from the hard days work. Whatever it is, you're sure to relax at Porky's.

Two large redwood decks, one upper and one lower, provide plenty of outdoor seating, with a friendly crowd, great food and plenty of beer, you'll always enjoy yourself at Porky's.
